Hillcrest High School

A native of Cotton Plant, Arkansas, Malica Johnson brings over two decades of experience in education, rooted in a deep commitment to student achievement and community engagement. She is a proud graduate of Cotton Plant High School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Principal Johnson began her career as a Special Education teacher at Whitehaven High School, where she served for 16 years. During this time, she worked collaboratively with students, families, and instructional staff to ensure that students with disabilities received the tailored support and inclusive learning environments necessary for success.

Her philosophy is grounded in the belief that all students can learn and thrive when provided with the right resources, support, and high expectations. In 2016, she was promoted to Assistant Principal at Whitehaven High School, where she served in a leadership capacity for seven years. After 23 impactful years at Whitehaven, she joined IOTA Community Schools Tennessee, where she initially served as Assistant Principal before being named Principal of Hillcrest High School.

As Principal, Johnson is dedicated to fostering a school culture that prioritizes academic excellence, equity, and student well-being. Her leadership is defined by a collaborative approach, a passion for educational equity, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student.
